My name is Yana and I was born in a small Siberian town where winters are very wintry and summers, although short, are also very summery. Then something went wrong, and I left for Japan, where I started writing stories about the Mama Shamana.
Starting as a fun hobby, the fairy tales turned into the book “Songs of the Mama Shamana”, which was illustrated by Nastya Stepanova, an artist I know with Mari roots, who at that time lived in China. Publishing houses quickly became interested in the book and for several years it was published under the AST edition, and now it is printed by me personally as samizdat.
After the “Songs” came the second book of the trilogy – “Shaman’s Mom’s Cookbook”. It contains fairy tales, illustrations by Anastasia Pavlova, and recipes of my favorite dishes and pastries drawn by me.
The third book, The Shaman’s Mother Sprinkles Salt, is decorated with delicate watercolors by Ukrainian artist Anastasia Telegina.
On the basis of “Songs” and “Salt” two decks of metaphorical cards were created. In the “Mirror of the Shaman’s Mother”, among others, you will find some illustrations and lines from the “Salt”, and in the “Yarn of the Shaman’s Mother” – from the “Songs”.
The third deck – “West of the Moon” – an oracle. Unlike metaphorical cards, each card in the deck has a specific description that you will find in the book by the icon drawn on this very card.
The illustrations for The Moon are by the Latvian artist Diana Renjina.
