My name is Yana and I was born in a small Siberian town where winters are very wintry and summers, although short, are also very summery. Then something went wrong, and I left for Japan, where I started writing my first stories about Mama Shamana.
Starting as a hobby, the tales turned into the book “Songs of Mama Shamana”, which was illustrated by Anastasia Stepanova, an artist with Mari-El roots, who lived in China at that time. Russian publishing houses took interest in the book and for several years it was published under the AST edition until I decided to print my books myself.
After the “Songs” the other two books of the trilogy were released, you can find an information about them in the Books section. The third book “Mama Shamana spills salt” is illustrated by delicate watercolors by Ukrainian artist Anastasia Telegina.
Two books about Mama Shamana are being translated to French language, you can buy online or find them in physical store in Paris.
The fourth book that I wrote “Monsters Only No Entrance” is for kids 6 to 99 years old, and it is illustrated by myself. It was inspired by my little sister and niece.
In 2021 in collaboration with music band ‘Nemnogo Nervno’ I created a story book based on the songs from the album “Children of inner rooms”. Each story is in attunement with the song, so together they created the whole montage with it’s own atmosphere and sound. You can listen the whole audioversion of the project on YouTube.
